Coon’s adjustment to Pac-10 softball last season took only slightly longer than a typical flight from New York to the Bay Area. As a freshman, she hit .353 and led the Cardinal with nine home runs and 40 RBI while splitting time between shortstop and third base. It was good enough to earn her a place on the all-conference second team and might have earned her newcomer-of-the-year honors if not for the debut season of all-everything outfielder Kaitlin Cochran at Arizona State.
